Bluesun Hotel Borak

Arrived on 31/5/26 and staying till 7/6/26. Hotel has improved dramatically since we last visited in June 1990, for our first wedding anniversary. We tried to book to stay for the following year (1991). Unfortunately all travel was cancelled due to the war. The hotel is in the same place, but the building has been rebuilt and the standard of decor is excellent quality. Marble floors and clean walls with huge pot planted trees make it very easy to look at and relaxing. Our room overlooks the swimming pool and through the pine trees you can see the sea. The bathroom is spotless with nonslip tiles inside the shower stall. The room is tidied daily and you leave your towels on the floor of the shower stall if you want them replaced. We have a balcony with two chairs and a table and a towel rail for wet swimming gear. There is nothing built to block the view. The marble promenade has been relaid and extended to allow the fit among you to walk left to the harbour and centre of Bol. Or right to the famous Zlatni Rat beach. Now we cannot walk very far at all, so we stay around the hotel during the day and walk very slowly to the Noa Beach Bar/Restaurant in the evenings. We only booked on a bed and breakfast basis. The breakfasts are buffet style and well stocked with fresh produce. The hot breakfasts are well cooked and the Chef will cook you a delicious omelette on request, all whilst he restocks the scrambled and fried eggs. We booked the evening buffet for our Anniversary dinner and found it very enjoyable. Again very well stocked and replenished regularly. I’m allergic to gluten and found it easy to find food safe for me to eat. The pool bar serves cold and hot drinks throughout the day and evening, with plenty of lounge chairs both inside and outside. The restaurant serves the odd snacks at lunchtime mainly pizza and french fries, but there are many places within walking distance for people to try a more varied menu for lunch. Again as a couple who can’t walk far at all, we were happy to stay around the hotel. The staff are excellent and very friendly and knowledgeable. They managed to make us feel welcome and happy on arrival and helped us sort out a slight hiccup with our air conditioning instantly getting it working. The pool is looked after by Sebastian who initially swapped our towel cards for beach towels on the first day and then he remembered us after that, ensuring me a place in the shade etc. Residents are asked not to reserve sun loungers with their own property and I think this makes for a happier atmosphere around the pool. There are plenty of spare sunbeds stacked ready for newcomers and umbrellas and towels ready to be handed out. I have to give a shout out to the Receptionist on our arrival and the Maintenance Team Member who helped us initially. Also the girls in the pool bar who make the most delightful iced cocoa. Finally Elvira in the restaurant who attended to our every need daily. We traveled on a package tour with JET2 from Leeds/Bradford Airport to Split, with a Catamaran from Split to Brac, then a minibus to Bol and the Hotel Borak. Well worth the money. One thing to note, if you are reliant on a wheelchair for your needs, and cannot walk at all. You may have to choose another hotel, as the Hotel Borak has a few steps in reception up to the lift area. We are unsteady on our feet, but can stand and walk a short distance. We also were determined to return for our 37th wedding anniversary to the hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves here.

It was our third time staying in this hotel which says everything. We simply love it. Very pleasant atmosphere, high hospitality and care. Having serious issues with allergies, whole team was full of understanding and they did all to make my stay comfortable and stress free. I can surely say that I feel like at home.

The Hotel Borak is situated on a beautiful seaside promenade covered with groves of pine trees, a ten-minute walk from famous Zlatny Rat beach. But despite its lovely setting we found the hotel to be seriously lacking in basic hospitality, and we would not recommend it. We pulled up to the hotel in the middle of a torrential rain storm, wet and exhausted. There was no one there to greet us, no indication of what we should do with our rental car, and no offer of help with our luggage. The front desk staff were surly and unwelcoming. There were no bottles of water in the room, and when I asked for an iron I was told there were none. When my partner went to secure a beach towel the next day, at the front desk, he got yelled at for not understanding the arcane rules by which towels were alloted. (Just one towel a day per guest, and only obtainable at certain very specific hours.) Rooms were clean and modern but on the very small side, with a bizarre lighting system that made it impossible to light the main part of the room without also lighting the entrance hallway. The hotel did have an excellent dining room, and we really enjoyed our buffet dinners. But this did not make up for the sour, parsimonious attitude that seemed to pervade the whole place. And despite its four stars, the hotel had few additional amenities. We thought this might all be just par for the course with this particular hotel chain. But in fact we stayed at the Bluesun Maestral Hotel in Brela later in our trip, and the experience could not have been more opposite. It's amazing the difference that a simple smile can make.

Nice hotel with lovely and helpful staff pool area nice and relaxed and lovely stroll from hotel into the town. Only criticism I have is would have been nice to have snacks available at lunch only had fries or pizza, a choice of sandwiches would have been perfect. On the whole hotel worth staying at.

Room The room was clean and the bedding very comfortable. However, some basic amenities were missing , there were no complimentary water bottles (though tap water is potable) and no iron facilities available. Our “sea view” was more of a partial sea view as pine trees blocked much of it. One issue for light sleepers is that the illuminated light switches remain on at night, and if you cut the electricity to darken the room, the air conditioning stops working. Nonetheless the biggest inconvenience was the presence of ants on the terrace. Amenities The pool area is nice, with plenty of seating, though perhaps too many loungers for my taste, which can make the area feel crowded. The pool bar and restaurant are convenient, and I would like to highlight the gentleman handling the towel service , he was very polite and attentive. Unfortunately, ants were also an issue around the pool area. Restaurant The restaurant offers a very good selection at both breakfast and dinner, with options for all tastes, ranging from pizza to freshly grilled fish. Breakfast service could benefit from a second coffee machine to reduce queuing during peak hours. Special mention to our waitress, who was fantastic , friendly, attentive, and professional, and she really made our dining experience enjoyable. Location The hotel is conveniently located, just a 10-minute walk from the city. There is a lovely walking path directly in front of the property, and plenty of water activities and beaches nearby. Overall This was a good stay, but I feel three stars is fair mainly due to the ant problem and the poor welcome we received upon arrival from the receptionist, which left a negative first impression. With small improvements in guest service and better pest control, this hotel has the potential to provide an even better experience.
