Castello Village Resort

We did not upgrade to a sea view room because the photos of the "land view" rooms looked ok. This was a mistake. We were initially shown to a room which was the most depressing dark uninviting space I have encountered in 50 years of travelling. I genuinely felt I would prefer to fly home than spend 10 days in what felt like a basement with a view of some straggly trees and a 20ft wall. There are other land view options. You could have a 6ft x4 ft balcony overlooking a scruffy street with a view of a supermarket and bike hire shop. You could have a ground floor terrace which is adjacent to the hotel's main driveway so you have people passing all day and no privacy. You could be overlooking a piece of waste ground complete with rubble or you could have a terrace which is basically inside the hotel and again people are passing to get to the dining room. I do not feel the photos reflect the hotel as it is now. It is much more scruffy than I imagined and definitely not 4 star They are clearly not recent photos as evidenced by the fact that the wooden chairs shown in the outdoor dining space are now metal. There is a photo of a sandy beach which I thought was near the hotel but is in fact about a mile away.There are no lifts, and stairs everywhere so if you have mobility problems that could be an issue There are some lovely sea view rooms with large balconies and patios and I would definitely advise an upgrade if you are booking here.

Stay for week 2 of us. Had room with garden view 357. Lovely large room with 2 balconies. Reception staff are amazing especially Alexandria and Constantine couldn't be more helpful and always a beautiful smile! Ervis and Marie are also lovely in restaurant nothing too much trouble and again very welcoming. All the staff are lovely. Hotel pool always very clean and lots of sunloungers and brollies. Was apprehensive after reading some bad reviews but need not of worried! Would definitely return

The location is great close to the town, local taverna's & little harbour, where you can see the most stunning sunsets. We stayed on a bed & breakfast basis as we wanted to enjoy the local taverna's also. The breakfasts were very good, with plenty of fresh foods to choose from,the yoghurt & local honey was my personal favourite! All the staff were so friendly & helpful & made us feel very welcome. Ervis, Christian, Sam & Maria were particularly nice & the activity guys provided a lot of fun around the pool. Our room was clean, we had a sea view & we also could enjoy the beautiful sunsets from our balcony. All in all we had a fantastic holiday in a beautiful place full of friendly locals.

Firstly, the setting was stunning. For a last-minute booking, Castello Village Resort offered fantastic value for money. Sissi itself is peaceful and beautiful, making it the perfect destination if you’re looking for a relaxing escape away from the crowds. We enjoyed coastal walks, easy access to nearby beaches and local tavernas, and the resort itself felt like a charming Greek village. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and featured a great shower and private seating area. One of the most memorable parts of our stay was the incredible sunsets. Watching the sun go down over the sea from the resort was absolutely breathtaking, with beautiful colours lighting up the coastline each evening. It quickly became one of our favourite parts of the day. A special mention has to go to Elvis, who is worth his weight in gold. He was not only incredibly friendly and accommodating but also had a natural warmth that extended to every guest. We noticed how fantastic he was with children, always bringing smiles to families and creating a welcoming atmosphere. His upbeat personality and genuine hospitality made every mealtime a pleasure and played a huge part in making our holiday so enjoyable. We opted for the full-board package and were pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety of the food. There was always something to enjoy, accompanied by a lovely wine selection. We also attended a fantastic jazz night at the sister hotel, which guests staying at Castello Village Resort can book and enjoy. Although Sissi is a smaller resort town, it was easy to hire bikes and explore further afield, including trips to Malia and other nearby beaches. Heraklion is also only around an hour away, making it a great base for exploring more of Crete. Everywhere we went, we found the locals warm and welcoming, and every restaurant we visited served delicious traditional cuisine. Before travelling, I had seen a few reviews mentioning cleanliness, security, and additional charges for the safe key. In our experience, none of these were an issue. Our room was cleaned and the beds were made almost every day during our stay, with only one day missed. We did experience the shower overflowing once, but quickly realised it was due to the drainage setting rather than a fault and had no further problems. The safe key was included at no extra cost, and throughout our stay we felt completely comfortable and secure in both the resort and our room. Overall, Castello Village Resort gave us a relaxing, memorable holiday and excellent value for money. Between the beautiful setting, stunning sunsets, fantastic food, and exceptional staff, it’s somewhere we would happily recommend to others and would love to return to in the future.

Location is close to a rocky beach, but walk about a mile to a beautiful beach. ( Kalimera Kriti) Hotel is okay but nothing special, I would suggest a 3star. Basic bedrooms, with free air con, but evening meal you had to pay for drinks even though on half board basis, least I expected was free water .. 2 members of staff, Elvis & Sive made our stay.. Lovely resort of Sissi in the harbour.
